Dear Friends of San Diego–WISH and Global Citizens,
As Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture, I am deeply moved by your unwavering commitment to peace. Your 16th annual International Peace & Humanity Day shines as a beacon of hope- sending a powerful message across the globe: a world without nuclear threats is not just a dream, but a goal within our reach.
Here in Hiroshima, we stand with leaders from 125 countries and regions for the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony. Together, on this 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing, we pause–not only to remember the tragic past but to reimagine a brighter, safer future.
The Doomsday Clock now ticks at 89 seconds to midnight, the closest ever in human history. This chilling reality reminds us: every second counts. Every moment we hesitate raises the chance of catastrophe.
Around the world, conflicts rage, divisions deepen, and trust erodes. But here’s the truth- nuclear deterrence is a myth. As long as these weapons exist, humanity lives on the edge, at risk of extinction from a single mistake or act of aggression.
At 8:15 am Japan time (4:15 pm Pacific Time) today, I invite you–wherever you are–to ring your bells with us. Pause. Reflect. And imagine a world where people collaborate, or at the very least, coexist with respect and compassion.
To the young generation: you are the heartbeat of this movement. You carry the power to build bridges, rewrite narratives, and lead us into a future where peace is not fragile, but unshakable.
I commend San Diego–WISH for inspiring and empowering youth to rise as future global leaders. And to everyone joining us today, thank you. Together, our voices echo across oceans and
borders, uniting us in our shared vision of a peaceful tomorrow.
With hope and solidarity,

Hidehiko Yuzaki
Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture.
