San Diego-WISH President Dr. Akiko Mikamo was invited to present her story and a message for peace for 1,700 San Gabriel Unified School District students on Monday, March 2, 2015.
With the special invitation and coordination of Wilson Elementary School Principal Mrs. Jeannine McGuigan, a total of 8 presentations were given, including:
- Gabrielino High School (x2) – 700 students total
- Gabrielino High School (x1) – 20 teachers
- Jefferson Middle School (x2) – 1000 students total
- The Oaks of Pasadena Senior Home – 35 seniors
- La Canada Book Store Book Club/Author Talk – 15 book club members
Her presentations included topics of the psychology of victimization, empathy, and forgiveness, as well as her father’s story surviving the atomic bomb on August 6, 1945 and his journey of strength and compassion.
