Dear Friends of San Diego-WISH and Global Citizens,
Dear Friends of San Diego-WISH and Global Citizens,
As Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture, I am sending this message to all of you from Hiroshima for San Diego-WISH International Peace & Humanity Day 2023 as the world is simultaneously reflecting on the nuclear war history at Hiroshima Peace Ceremony.
All the G7 leaders and other invited countries’ leaders visited Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and Monument during the G7 Hiroshima Summit in this past May.
They witnessed the relics of the nuclear war horrors and strengthened their views that our world must ultimately become free from nuclear weapons.
It is the mission of our humanity, so as not to ever repeat the nuclear tragedy.
International Peace & Humanity Day is an opportunity to remind ourselves that, together, it is possible to transcend our differences and find a path for harmony as difficult as it may seem. The way Hiroshima people rose from the ashes and rebuilt their lives, and how the United States and Japan, once considered the worst enemies, became strong allies are some examples of such achievements.
The current world situations continue to pose heightened threats of nuclear wars, and we must seek peaceful ways to resolve conflicts, especially for the younger generations who will take leadership roles in our future.
I commend San Diego-WISH’s youth team for taking initiative to create today’s program, inspiring other young global citizens to take actions to create peaceful world.
I thank San Diego-WISH and all the global audience for your tireless efforts and reflections today.
Sincerely yours
Hidehiko Yuzaki
Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture.
